What do we envisage when we think of Christmas?  It is of course first and foremost a religious Christian celebration, marking the birth of Jesus Christ. For others without the religious penchant, Christmas brings a special time of sharing with family and friends.  One thing however is for sure; Christmas is a time for enjoying age old traditions such as decorating the tree and tucking into Christmas dinner. Angie Watts was one of the initial twenty-three one-by-one characteristics created by the creators of EastEnders, Tony Holland and Julia Smith. The characteristic of Angie was initially going to be entitled Pearl[1] and she, her got married man and taken up feminine child were to be the inhabitants of the soap’s localized tavern, now very well renowned as The Queen Vic. Holland, who had worked as a barman in his youth, called upon his own individual information to create the Watts family and the tavern they dwelled in.[1] Holland and Smith had habitually been critical of the way taverns had been depicted on television feeling they needed vitality and life, so they were very resolute that their tavern and inhabitants were going to be more ‘real’. The Watts were glimpsed by Holland as integral to the displays achievement, partially because he had actually estimated that the tavern was going to be a monstrous battleground where powerful sentiments would run high on a normal base, and furthermore because the inhabitants would be providing the most of the drama.[1]
