Friday, July 23rd, 2010Can My Company Refuse To Pay Me My Contracted Hours?
Monday, January 4th, 2010I’m currently working full time at a hotel in the food and beverage department. As we all know the recession is in full swing and things are running a little slow at my work.
There have already been some redundancy’s and we were told before christmas that we would no longer be paid for any overtime. But recently, because there’s been fewer people checking into the hotel, they have been cancelling some of my shifts and bringing me in later.
First they said I could make up the hours in the month (but it’s obviously going to be impossible with the amount of hours Ive been cancelled), or I could take it as a holiday. I’ve refused to take any of my cancelled shifts as holidays cause I’m not using them up just to sit around at home when I’m more than willing to work.
I’m already on minimum wage and can’t afford to be paid any less than my contracted hours. I have offered to work in any other departments if needed but they’ve not got back to me.
So back to the question. Can they refuse to pay me my contracted hours, even though I’m willing to work and through not fault of my own, they have failed to give me my contracted hours?

I have a sign contract that says:
“Your rate of pay will be £11,194.56 per annum. You will be paid one twelfth of your salary monthly on the 28th of each month directly to your nominated bank account. Any future changes in your rate of remuneration or method of payment will be notified to you.”
^ I’m not planning on working here for much longer anyway, but in the mean time I really can’t afford to be paid less than one twelfth of £11,194.56 lol.
